Orlando Sentinel: Defending the white: National Chocolate Day is a time for solidarity - Peterbrooke Chocolatier

Halloween may be the titan of candy-centric holidays, but increasingly, the smart money’s on Oct. 28, which is National Chocolate Day. I’m still good for a costume or three come October, but time — ever cruel — has relegated me to picking over the holiday spoils when my kids aren’t home. In doing so, I’ve noticed an influx of the white stuff as tried and true favorites (Kit Kat, Reese’s and more) have gotten white-chocolate makeovers in recent years.

Still, it seems to have a lot of haters.

“It’s not chocolate!” the purists say.

Well, that’s sort of true. White chocolate contains none of the cacao solids that give milk and dark chocolate its rich color.
